Biography of the Speakers

Dr. Bjarne Lembke


Bjarne Lembke is a physician and a specialist in occupational health. He is also farmer and have spent most of his career working in rural areas. Now 73 years old, he is helping people with chronic headache and Migraine to find rehabilitation.


He has known Dr. Nils-Axel Mörner since 1952, and has been helping Dr Morner in several of his expeditions to Maldives and elsewhere. He has researched on the psychological impact on the people in Maldives, of the current discourse on climate change. He has also been chief medical officer for United Nations peace forces after the Yom Kippur war in Suez in1973.


He has traveled a lot and have had interacted with local people across the world.




Dr Kurush F. Dalal

Dr Kurush F Dalal did his MA in Archaeology from the Deccan College, Pune and his PhD on the Early Iron Age in Rajasthan from the University of Pune under Prof V.N. Misra.

He has participated in numerous archaeological explorations and excavation across the length and breadth of India. He has also conducted his own excavation as Field Director and Joint Director at the ancient site of Sanjan (tal Umargam, dist Valsad, Gujarat).

He has been the Coordinator and Resource Person for the University of Mumbai’s Bachelor’s in Heritage Management (KC College) and Visiting Lecturer in Tourism at the Jhunjhunwala College.

He is currently the Coordinator for the Archaeology and Ancient Indian Arts and Sciences Certificate Courses, and Assistant Professor (Archaeology) at the Centre for Extra Mural Studies, University of Mumbai. He has a presented a number of Papers at Conferences in India and has published a number of research articles in peer reviewed journals and edited volumes both in India and abroad.


Ms Pooja Kotiyal

She had done her Post Graduation in Life Science with specialization in Fisheries Biotechnology from H.N.B.G University, Uttrakhand. She recently completed a PG Diploma in Environment and Sustainable Development from IGNOU. She is currently working with Ministry of Environment and Forest as a Technical – Project Associate in a UNDP Project – “India’s Second National Communication to UNFCCC”. She has worked on many scientific publications under this project like “India’s GHG Emission Inventory – 2007”. She has also worked in other projects of Ministry of Environment and Forest like “Global Learning and Observation to benefit Environment” and “National Environment Awareness campaign”.


Mr Barun Mitra  

Barun S. Mitra is the founder and director of Liberty Institute, an independent, non-profit, public policy research and advocacy organization, based in New Delhi. He has worked on a range of public policy issues, including climate change, energy, economic development, and environment. He is the recipient of the Julian L. Simon Award 2005 for his contribution to environmental policy debate.

He has been widely published in newspapers and magazines in India and across the world. He is often invited to comment on current affairs on national television channels.

Over the years, he has participated in a number of international events as a NGO delegate, including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), UN’s World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), UN’s Stockholm Convention of Persistent Organic Pollutants, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) ministerial meetings, World Health Organisation, and others.
