Empowering India is an initiative of Liberty Institute. The Institute is a public policy think tank dedicated to advocating ideas that enhance individual freedom. But to be effective, public policy proposals need to be politically acceptable. This required understanding of the total political process, which included the electoral process, political parties, candidates, and the citizens. This is the interface between political ideals and public policy proposals. Empowering India seeks to make democracy meaningful, by improving access to politically relevant information. |

The real reasons can be subsumed in four sets: firstly, the dismal record of the saffron party when the coalition it led was in power for six long years (1998-2004); secondly, its failure to offer a viable alternative to the Congress and its penchant with old issues and slogans; thirdly, the BJP’s alienation from its traditional constituency, the middle class; and, finally, its persistent and high-decibel attack on Manmohan Singh by calling him a ‘weak prime minister.’ Ravi Shanker Kapoor writes that the sooner the saffron party acknowledges them, the better it would be for it. |
