Empowering India, an initiative of Liberty Institute, is aimed at encouraging active citizenship and empowering voters with information about their candidates and elected representatives. After Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, and Ranchi, Guwahati is the tenth city in the country where the initiative is being introduced. Mr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister for Information Technology, Government of Assam, will launch the website. The event will be followed by a panel discussion, on Sept 11, 2009.
