About the Speakers:
Ravi Shanker Kapoor is the author of three books, the latest being How India’s Intellectuals Spread Lies (2007). A journalist by vocation, he has worked with a variety of publications including The Financial Express, The Political and Business Daily, The Asian Age, and Destination India. He has also contributed extensively to the websites of the Liberty Institute.
Maulana Wahiduddin Khan. popularly known as Islam’s spiritual ambassador to the world, is an Islamic scholar who presents Islam in the modern idiom. Towards fulfilling his life’s ambition of presenting Islam as an ideology of peace, he has translated the Quran into English, Hindi, Urdu and Arabic and authored more than 200 books. Nikhil Mehra is an advocate practicing at the Supreme Court of India and High Court of Delhi. He is a partner at the firm of Deshpande Mehra & Bharihoke Advocates and Solicitors. He completed a Masters in Law from Northwestern University. He worked as a transaction lawyer with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP and at Clifford Chance US LLP in New York. He returned to India in June 2008 to pursue a career practicing before the courts.
Nilanjana Roy is a Delhi-based columnist who writes on books for the Business Standard and gender for the International Herald Tribune. She has written extensively on banned books and censorship in India.
Salil Tripathi is a writer born in Bombay and based in London who has written extensively on free speech issues around the world. He is on the board of English PEN and chairs its writers-in-prison committee. In 2011, he received the third prize at the Bastiat Awards in New York for journalism committed to economic and political freedoms. He is a columnist at Mint and contributing editor at Caravan.
